South African Jive

Sunday 8 January at 7pm

On the lawn of St John the Evangelist
King St, Flinders

Be swept away by the infectious grooves and irresistible rhythms of South Africa as Valanga Khoza and his band create an exhilarating performance experience.

Exiled from South Africa in 1976 for protesting against apartheid, Valanga journeyed across the world as a refugee before finally settling in Australia. The music and stories he has since created reflects the places he has been and the people he has touched throughout his travels.

Charming his audiences with humour and wit, singer, songwriter and storyteller Valanga leads an ensemble featuring traditional instruments such as the kalimba, marimba and shijoro (jaw harp), interwoven with guitar, percussion and Valanga’s velvety voice.

A selection of Peninsula wines will be available for sale (sorry, no BYO). A gourmet BBQ will be available or bring your own picnic.
