The afternoon opens with a team of handpicked musicians gathered from around the world, led by Artistic Director Ben Opie and internationally acclaimed Italian oboist Francesco Ciarmatori, alongside Matthew Kneale, Vivian Qu, Justice Carol and Nick Pollock. They tackle Zelenka’s notoriously demanding trio sonatas—high-wire baroque music requiring precision, stamina and six outstanding musicians.
Then St John’s Gardens provides the perfect setting for Rita Satch, whose acclaimed debut album is titled—appropriately—Meet Me in the Garden. The Uzbekistan-born, Melbourne-raised singer is becoming an international force in contemporary soul, captivating audiences from Glastonbury to sold-out shows at London’s Ronnie Scott’s.
At St John’s, audiences can experience her remarkable voice up close as she performs jazz favourites with leading pianist and PSMF Alumnus, Daniel Mougerman (who performed with Tarryn Stokes and the Bamboos at Montalto).
